You Are the Light of the World
FROM BILLY SIMS:
“You are the salt of the earth... You are the light of the world.” With these powerful words in Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus calls each of us to an important purpose. He doesn't say we should be salt and light, but that we are. This isn't a suggestion; it's our mission as modem-day Catholics.
Just as salt flavors and preserves, we are called to bring the distinct flavor of Christ's love and truth into a world that often feels bland, decaying, and divisive. How do we do this? By living lives that are authentically Catholic, allowing our faith to permeate every aspect of our daily lives - our conversa tions, our work, our relationships.
And as light replaces darkness, we are to light the path for others. In a world sometimes overshadowed by cynicism, despair, and division, our witness of hope, charity, and Catholic unity can be a beacon of light (hope). This doesn't require huge commitments. Often, it’s the quiet acts of kindness, the encouraging words to friends, coworkers - and yes- strangers (neighbors)! It can be the simple act of living joyfully in our faith that makes the biggest impact. Non-Christians and other Christians are watching us.
Think this week on how we can more intentionally be salt and light in our families, workplaces, and communities. How can our actions and words bring Christ’s presence to those around us, so that, as Jesus says, they may "See your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven"?
Let our lives shine for our faith!
